Virtually every discussion about decorating with loft beds begins with the subject of space. No, not the final frontier, though a Trekkie could probably tell you if loft beds appear on any Federation starships. In kids' bedrooms, college dorms, and cramped New York City apartments, space can be a commodity that's as rare and valuable as gold (or dilithium crystals, for those Star Trek fans who are still reading). But while the space-conserving aspect of loft beds is definitely cool, we also think that loft bed styles don't get the attention they deserve. So without further ado, here's a much-needed look at some of the many types and styles of loft beds.

One of our favorite things about the different designs of kids' loft beds is how fun they make it to sleep in mid-air. Tent loft beds and kids loft beds with slides are two great examples. Tent lofts feature canopies and even castle turrets that transform beds into fantasy lands. Kids lofts with slides are a creative way of giving your child his or her own personal playground.
