Decorating with Loft Beds

The unique designs and features of loft beds open up all kinds of decorative possibilities for childrens bedrooms, college dorm rooms, and apartments. From play themes in kids' rooms to highly original contemporary decors to incredibly space-efficient sleep and study nooks, the decorating schemes that loft beds inspire are always fun, inventive, and versatile. Here are some ideas on how to use your loft bed to create a cool room for yourself or your children.

Childrens Bedrooms If you're planning to decorate your child's bedroom in a particular theme, kids loft beds are the perfect place to begin. A kids loft bed is one of the few pieces of bedroom furniture that can fully display the playful and imaginative spirit of childhood, a time when mattresses can become forts and beds become castles or spaceships. Tent loft beds are a great example. A tent loft bed might feature a princess- or castle-themed canopy, or an enclosed space beneath the bed that could be anything from a fortress to a cabin. Use accessories such as vanities and mirrors to further the princess and castle theme, or add storage chests and glow-in-the dark ceiling stars to create an outdoor camping theme.

Student Dorms
One of the little ironies of college life is that it broadens your mind while constricting your living space. You may be learning about organic chemistry or cultural anthropology, but you're doing it in a dorm room the size of that off-campus food cart that sells great burritos.

College loft beds are the brilliant solution to this perennial problem. In particular, study loft beds can provide all of the furniture a college student needs - bed, desk, and dresser - within a single unit taking up only about 25 square feet of floor space, or 1/4 of a 10 foot by 10 foot room.

If studying in bed is your thing, you could fill the open floor space created by your college loft bed with a small futon bench, beanbag, or stereo setup.

Apartments
A note to urbanites or college graduates living in cramped apartments: a loft bed will both conserve space and help you to make a distinctive stylistic statement. If you're into thrifting, wood loft beds might work well with some older wooden furniture items. Metal loft beds tend to be a little more sleek and contemporary, and would look good with Art Deco pieces or fashion-forward furniture.
