Loft Beds

1. Desk loft beds are second only to black holes for being able to fit the largest amount of material into the smallest amount of space. No, that doesn't mean you'll be able to use your loft bed to travel through time or visit other dimensions. But it does mean you can put a beanbag or video game chair where your desk would otherwise have been.

2. Speaking of outer space, if you buy a tent loft bed and cover your child's bedroom with glow-in-the-dark ceiling stars, your kids will have all the fun of sleeping outdoors except without the mosquito bites and homesickness.

3. A practical point adults should remember when shopping for loft beds: You'll be sleeping in mid-air. Check the manufacturer's weight limit before buying a loft bed; college loft beds typically should be able to support someone weighing around 200 pounds.

4. Most colleges have a list of safety requirements for loft beds that are used in their residence halls. If you're shopping for a college loft bed and will be staying in a dorm, you might want to ask your school about its loft bed safety rules.
